How it works
- Drop the papers in. The whole pack at once — charter party, recap, riders, sale contract, NORs, statements of facts, bills of lading — as PDF, Word, Excel, a scan or a phone photo. Each paper is recognised, read and placed for you. (Professional and Team.)
- Check what was read. The terms and the timeline appear on the card, each with the words it came from. Correct anything, or type it all yourself — typing works on every plan, and on the free calculator.
- Get your laytime statement. The time used, the time excepted and the reason for each, when laytime ran out, and the demurrage or despatch due — to check against the other side's figure, or to export and send.
More than a calculator: your voyage accounts
- Every side of the voyage. Charterer vs owners, vs shipper (FOB) and vs receiver (CIF) — and owners vs charterer — settled from the same papers, with the net position across all of them.
- A register of your voyages. Keep each voyage with its readings and statements, and track every claim: still open, claim sent, settled, closed.
- Your statements, saved. Reopen any statement or voyage later without uploading the papers again — a document already read is never charged twice.
What it handles
- Laytime as a fixed number of days or hours, or as a rate per day
- Sundays, Saturdays, Fridays and holidays excepted — SHEX, SSHEX, FSHEX, with "even if used" and "unless used" — using the weekend and holidays of the country the port is in
- Weather: weather permitting, weather working days, and weather working days of 24 consecutive hours, which are not the same thing
- Commencement after notice of readiness: turn time, next working day, or a morning/afternoon split
- Once on demurrage, always on demurrage — and the clauses that say otherwise
- Strikes, ice, shifting, and detention reported separately from demurrage
- More than one port, under the charter's own second-port clause where it has one
- Despatch on working time saved or all time saved
- Sale contracts as well as charter parties: CIF and FOB terms, on GAFTA and FOSFA forms or the parties’ own, so you can settle against the owner, the shipper and the receiver on the same voyage
- Tanker and vegetable-oil charters, including BISCOILVOY 86
Who uses it
Charterers, shipowners and operators, brokers, agents, and the execution desks of grain and oilseed traders — anyone who has to produce a laytime statement, or check one that has just arrived.
Questions
Is it free?
The calculator is free, for ever, and needs no account: you type the terms and the timeline yourself, and the statement exports as a PDF and as an Excel spreadsheet, both marked DEMO. The free calculator settles one port and one side of the fixture, and does not read documents.
Uploading documents to be read, the clean PDF, Word and Excel exports, the second port and the other parties come with a subscription. Without one the calculator goes on working: you type the facts in and it settles the voyage. See pricing.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in the browser on desktop and mobile. There are also apps for Mac and Windows.
Do you keep my documents?
No. A document is read and then discarded. What is kept is what was read from it, so the same file is never charged twice. Deleting your account removes your statements, voyages and stored readings.
How is laytime calculated?
Work out the time allowed, find when laytime started under the notice clause, count the time used, take out what the charter excepts, and compare. The worked example goes through it step by step.
